Overview

Scientists in the Department of Psychology are studying the behaviors and cognitive processes of people with developmental disabilities who have categorically defined disorders such as autism or intellectual disability, or who have etiologically defined disorders, such as fragile X syndrome or Down syndrome. The long-term goals of these projects include development of:

  1. improved diagnostic and assessment techniques that can lead to improved prevention, including early intervention,
  2. more effective methods for training and habilitation of people with developmental disabilities
  3. better prediction of outcome, and
  4. more precise information about risk factors and incidence/prevalence of specific target conditions.
